Rottweiler

Origin of the Rottweiler

Rottweilers are a very ancient breed, in fact, it could be said that it is one of the oldest in existence. At the time of the Roman Empire, these dogs accompanied the legions on their excursions through Germania (now Germany). Their duty was to drive cattle and protect the borders. Its name derives from these one of these excursions since it was named in relation to the city of Rottweil, in southern Germany. Since it has been registered, this breed is considered a working breed. There are many tasks assigned to him, for example: they pulled carts, protected and drove livestock, were house guards, carried money in belts tied around their neck, and so on. At present they stand out as security dogs (being used even by some police forces) and herding.

But this breed as we know it came close to disappearing in the late 19th century. This was due to the popularity of smaller breeds that took over many of its functions (and were also much cheaper to maintain). It was thanks to some breeders who gave their best to recover the breed, which today enjoys great popularity throughout the world, being one of the most chosen in the United States. In several countries it is considered a potentially dangerous breed, and they have even suffered a "media persecution", but even so they enjoy a great acceptance in most of the people. لعبة جاك

Physical characteristics of the breed

There are two main branches of Rottweilers, these are: the German and the American. The former tends to be slightly larger and more blocking than the North American Rottweiler..

This breed is characterized by its large size, its incredible strength and its compact composition. Its height at the withers can vary between 55 cm and 70 cm. Taking as a reference the approximate height of the smallest females and the largest males. In turn, the weight of this breed ranges between 40 kg and 60 kg. They have a life expectancy of between 10 years and 13 years.

These dogs have a huge head that tends to be broad with a rounded forehead, their ears set close to their head and drooping downward. The muzzle is one of the strongest, square in shape, with well developed muzzles while its teeth meet in a scissor bite. Rottweilers tend to drool and this is because their lips or lips are drooping. These lips, like their nose, are black, while the inside of their mouth is dark. Their eyes are medium in size and generally dark brown, although there are occasional cases in which they may have bluish eyes or one eye of each color.

These animals have a black coat with brown points, with hair that is characterized by being short, dark and somewhat hard. Puppies are sometimes born "bushy" but that coat often disqualifies it. Other Rottweilers also have a reddish coat with brown spots, which is the result of a deficiency in their hair gene. The tails are amputated very short with a maximum extension of two vertebrae.

As with most large dog breeds, they mature slowly. They do not reach full adult size until approximately three years of age. As the months go by, these dogs will expand their chests and take the shape we know.

Character and personality of the breed

موقع البوكر Por otro lado, es una mascota ideal para los niños, por que les tienen mucha paciencia y los protegen mucho.

They are intelligent, faithful dogs, with a calm character, but they are also very sure of themselves and too active. As well as to act on their own, that is why early education is necessary.

If these steps are not taken, they could become barking, pesky, or burrowing dogs. This, combined with its strength and size, can lead to major damage. The aggressions of one of these dogs that has not had a good breeding, can be a big problem.

Rottweilers are appreciated for their obedience in competitions and are widely used for tasks such as search and rescue, tracking or to guide disabled people. It is also well regarded as a family dog as it is an easy dog to train especially if training begins at an early age.

It is important to bear in mind that it is necessary to establish almost total control over this breed to prevent the animal from taking the role of leader.

Health and possible diseases

The Rottweiler is characterized by being a powerful and strong dog, but like all canine breeds they are prone to contracting certain types of diseases. Among the most frequent problems that can affect these dogs we will find the following.

Hip dysplasia

It is developed in most cases by a hereditary malformation. When this problem appears, what happens is a displacement of the hip that tends to cause intense pain and lameness in the animal. Dogs that are affected by this disease tend to have difficulty performing common activities such as walking, running, jumping, climbing a ladder, and even lying down or sitting down. In more advanced cases or those that have not been treated, dysplasia can completely disable the animal.

Elbow dysplasia

It is a joint disease that is caused by the poor development of bone tissue that at the beginning will produce arthritis or inflammation in your joints and over time this will transform into osteoarthritis.

Heart diseases

Los Rottweiler son propensos a tener varias enfermedades cardíacas. La que más se presenta es la Estenosis sub aórtica. موقع البوكر Esta afección si no se trata puede derivar en insuficiencia cardíaca.

Gastric torsion

When problems of gastric tension or stomach torsion occur, it happens that the dog's stomach dilates excessively and causes this organ to twist on its axis. The consequence of this is that the connections with the esophagus and the intestine are obstructed and the blood stream is affected, making it impossible to properly oxygen some organs and causing damage, sometimes irreversible and even causing the death of the animal if it is not treated. on time.

Entropion

It is a curl of the eyelid on the inside, towards the cornea. It is not an overly worrisome problem, but it is very painful. On occasion, surgical intervention may be necessary for the treatment of this condition.

Cancer

The most common cancer in Rottweilers is in the bones. It is known as canine osteosarcoma and is most often seen in oversized and oversized dogs.

Parvovirus

It is a viral disease that most frequently affects puppies. What the Parvovirus produces is an alteration in the intestines that manifests itself with continuous diarrhea that is accompanied by blood. The animal deteriorates at a very accelerated rate and it is advisable to treat it quickly since the dog can die even if the disease is treated.

Food and recommended diet

This breed is characterized by having a voracious hunger, but the food it consumes must be of high quality, since it directly influences its state of health. You should consult with your veterinarian the right amount of feed that your dog needs, since this breed has sexual diformism (generally, males are considerably larger than females).

Advised exercise

The Rottweiler requires a lot of exercise and / or work to feel fulfilled and not tend to obesity. In addition to long walks (we recommend at least 2 daily 40-minute walks), they also enjoy doing activities such as swimming, running, and playing with balls.

It is very important that our dog performs these activities because this breed has a considerable energy level, and if we are not able to spend it, it will affect (for the worse) the behavior inside the house.

Cleanliness

Despite their large size, the care that these dogs require is quite simple. The care of its coat is minimal, it requires one or two weekly brushings with a brush with short and soft bristles. In turn, it will be enough to bathe it every approximately one month.

It is normal for them to drool a lot, particularly males. We recommend checking and cleaning your teeth regularly to avoid future dental problems.

  2. I congratulate you for your article, very clear and educational for those of us who have this breed of dogs, in particular I suggest that you talk a little about the current laws on animal protection, tail mutilation is already prohibited in many places and we must raise awareness that dogs are NOT a toy for humans and that we must respect them 100 %. Cheers
